Anyone selling time?

Posted by admin on Jun 27, 2009 in Uncategorized

Not that I could afford to buy it, because I’m sure it would be very expensive…but I do wish there were a few more hours in the day.   I would play more with the kids, blog more, be better caught up on laundry…  well, at least I think I would.

Yakobe is doing fine.  We had a few incidents of the Ethiopian pout - the worst being pouting outside and not wanting to come in even in the thunderstorm…Daddy got him in and he went to his bed and covered his head.  Only for about a half hour - then we got him in the van and went for a drive - he stayed mad for the rest of the day and was back to normal the next day.  We believe it was due to a cultural and communication issue between him and my oldest son…but we may never know!

Last week, he went with Mark to football and got a hold of the microphone in the press box….all of a sudden my husband and everyone else hears, “Ah-Lo, Ah - Lo, my name is Yakobe, I am from Addis Ababa, La, La, (and other noises)”  He’s quite a character.

Here’s two videos of him being silly.  The first one I didn’t think he was going to say anything - the second one he actually speaks!  All dressed up like a race car driver and sporting a cowboy hat, he rides on the bouncy horse!

I’m still praying for quicker English for him - how I long to talk to my son!

Nathan is doing great - still chubby and happy!

We went to VBS this week and all the kids loved it.  Here’s a video of them singing.

When we got back on Friday, the kids wanted to have a slushie stand because there were two nearby garage sales.  They made $2.50.  All the kids were excited about every customer - especially our very kind mail lady!

Settling In

Posted by admin on Jun 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

It seems the boys are settling in.  I hear Yakobe’s voice much more often, along with a stronger arguing tone with his siblings - standing his ground - wanting to get a say in what happens in playtime!  Sam has taken to playing board games with Yakobe up in the “fort” in the boys’ room.  Yesterday, Yakobe got mad that he couldn’t have the blue whale card in Oceanopoly and proceeded to demonstrate the Ethiopian pout.

Yakobe has taught himself to ride a 2 wheeler!  I spent some time a few days ago jogging alongside him and repositioning the bike as it twisted and leaned - but he’s now got the hang of it - even turning!  I’ve got to get a picture up here!

Yakobe called his teacher in Ethiopia on Thursday morning and it seemed to help his mood.  He seemed very sad the day before and it seemed to cheer him up.  I was hoping he could talk to his best friend there, but the teacher speaks hardly any English and didn’t understand what I was asking.  We are hoping to go to the Ethiopian restaurant here soon so I can have a translator handy.  I better start writing down all the stuff I want to communicate or ask him!  Schooling him is going well.  I had the lady at the restauant talk to Yakobe on the phone and explain that we aren’t doing as much school now as we will in the fall.  I didn’t want him to think that an hour or two of school and the rest playtime is going to be the norm.

Nathan is doing great.  He is sleeping better - about 4 hour blocks - so long as he is sleeping inbetween Mark and I in bed - good thing we went for the King size bed!  He is a pretty quiet sleeper though - I don’t get kicked or grabbed or anything - so I am able to rest better.  I even got to work out twice this week!  I weighed him and he has gained 2 pounds!  I couldn’t believe it, but it is true - he’s gone from 14 to 16 pounds in 3 weeks!  He is still nursing well and also taking bottles of breastmilk and eating rice cereal made with breastmilk.  His neck strength has greatly improved and he is very close to sitting up on his own.  It’s amazing what having a forever family does for these little ones!

I’m hoping to catch up on papers this weekend.  I’m sure many of you understand how the piles grow and I need to sort through everything and make sure I file the delayed birth registration…let alone make sure I find all the bills!

Mark will be home a bit more in a couple of weeks - hopefully then I can start thinking about school for the fall.  It’s amazing how short summer is with a football coach for a husband…about 3 weeks.

Hopefully I’ll get some photos up here soon!

Have a blessed weekend!

Tabar Family Tree

Tabar Family Tree

For Abbie’s birthday, June 8 - she turned 9!, we went to Real Life Farm in Canton and took a cool picture on a tree.  Yakobe loved chasing the geese and holding the goats and just running around.  He is speaking more now which is wonderful.  He has gotten the hang of asking to be excused from the table and putting up completed circles on the chore chart with his siblings.  He played a board game with Sam last night too.  Little Nathan is doing well too.  He doesn’t sleep great at night but otherwise, he’s eating and smiling well!  Yakobe also started getting the hang of riding a bike - we need some more practice, but he can balance and pedal in a line.  He loves to do school work and we are working hard on phonics and pronouncing English.

Abbie had a piano recital on Sunday and did great.  She is going to a back handspring clinic tonight as a birthday gift.  Oh, it was funny in Target yesterday, Abbie was picking out a gift from Sam to her and Yakobe was fascinated with a motorcycle toy that had buttons and made noise.  He was so excited and thrilled with the sounds.  I explained that it was Abbie’s birthday and he could pick something when it was his birthday and he was good with that.  He did get to pick out some summer PJ’s as that is something he really needs.

Well, gotta get up there and make breakfast and take a shower - long and full day ahead - it’s all good - God is in every moment and it’s a blessing.  Yesterday we did the story of David and Golliath - today we will talk about being a good friend and reference David and Jonathan.  We will make bow and arrows too!
